Yes! The Plumed Serpent Bridal is an appointment-only boutique. We schedule appointments so every bride and evening wear client receives a personalized, one-on-one styling experience with a dedicated stylist and private fitting room.
Our appointments are 90 minutes long, giving you plenty of time to try on gowns and discover the one that feels like you!
Appointments on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays require a $50 appointment fee. When you say yes to your dress at The Plumed Serpent, that fee is applied toward your gown purchase. Weekday appointments are complimentary.
There is no cancellation fee if you cancel at least 24 hours before your appointment. If cancellations occur within 24 hours or the appointment is missed, a $50 cancellation fee applies.
Yes, each appointment can include up to four guests. Our boutique is designed to provide an intimate and personalized experience, and our seating areas comfortably accommodate four guests. We also gently recommend keeping your group small. Too many opinions can make dress shopping overwhelming, and the most important voice in the room is yours. Bring the people who truly know you, support you, and who you can’t imagine saying yes to the dress without.
Yes! We offer exclusive private bridal appointments where you and your guests have The Plumed Serpent Bridal entirely to yourselves for a truly elevated shopping experience! These special appointments take place Sunday mornings from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM and allow you to celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime moment in a more relaxed, intimate setting. Private appointments include extended time to shop, the ability to bring up to seven guests, and a beautifully curated experience with champagne and light bites while you find your dream dress! It’s the perfect way to turn dress shopping into a celebration with the people you want by your side when you say yes to the dress! Click here to learn more!
We recommend wearing nude or light-colored underwear so they don’t show through gowns while you’re trying them on.
No need to stress about bras, most of our gowns are designed with built-in structure and support. However, we do have strapless bras in a variety of sizes available during your appointment if needed. You’re welcome to come with light makeup or hair styling if that helps you envision your wedding day look, but the most important thing is that you come ready to have fun and fall in love with your gown!
Before your visit, we recommend exploring our website, Instagram, and Pinterest! Looking through our designers and gowns can help you begin imagining what you might love for your wedding day. A member of our styling team will also reach out prior to your appointment to learn more about your vision, inspiration, and any gowns you may already have your eye on. Sharing ideas ahead of time helps your stylist thoughtfully prepare for your visit and curate a selection of gowns just for you. And don’t worry if you’re unsure of your style yet, that’s exactly what your stylist is here to help you discover!
We have two dedicated parking spaces directly in front of the boutique. If those are taken, simply drive past the storefront and you’ll find a larger parking lot immediately to the right with plenty of additional parking.
Your appointment begins with a conversation. Your stylist will sit down with you to learn about your wedding vision, venue, style preferences, and budget so we can start to imagine the overall look and feel of your day together.
From there, your stylist will select gowns from our curated designer collections for you to try on. Because our stylists know our gowns and designers so well, they’re able to thoughtfully guide you toward styles that align with your vision, and sometimes introduce a few unexpected options you may end up loving!
As you begin trying on gowns, your stylist will quickly start to learn what resonates with you, what details you’re drawn to, and which silhouettes feel most like you. From there, the appointment naturally evolves as we refine your style and move closer and closer to the dress of your dreams!
When you arrive for your appointment you’ll be paired one-on-one with one of our expert bridal stylists. Your stylist will help you in and out of gowns, clip dresses to fit your body, and guide you through the entire experience as you discover the dress you’ll walk down the aisle in.
And don’t worry! Changing in front of your stylist is completely normal! Our stylists have helped hundreds of brides say yes to the dress, so nothing surprises us. Think of us as your personal bridal hype team, professional dress fluffer, and expert zipper assistant all in one. By the time you find the one, your stylist will feel like part of your wedding story.
Every bridal appointment is unique. As you begin trying on gowns, your stylist will continue refining the selection based on what you’re loving, what silhouettes feel best, and the details that resonate most with you.
Your 90-minute bridal appointment gives you time to explore our designer collections and discover the gown that feels like the one. The focus isn’t on trying on a certain number of dresses, it’s about finding the dress that makes you feel confident, beautiful, and ready to walk down the aisle!
We recommend brides begin shopping about 12 months before the wedding. Most designer wedding gowns take 6–8 months to be made, and alterations typically begin 2–3 months prior to your wedding date.
If your wedding is sooner than that, don’t worry — bridal magic still happens all the time. Many designers offer rush options, and we also have other solutions for shorter timelines.
For evening wear clients, gowns typically take about 3 months to arrive, and alterations occur about 6 weeks before your event, so ordering about 6 months ahead is ideal.
A trunk show is a limited-time opportunity to try on gowns from a designer collection that we don’t normally carry in the boutique. These special events allow brides and evening wear clients to see expanded collections, new styles, and exclusive gowns for a short period of time!
Our curated bridal designer collection includes: Anne Barge, Bliss by Monique Lhuillier, Enaura, Ines Di Santo, Lela Rose, Luna D’Miel, Mark Ingram, Martina Liana, Monique Lhuillier, and Tide & True (our exclusive in-store brand)!
Our evening wear designers include: Alex Teih, Audrey + Brooks, Cyril Verdavainne, Fouy Chov, Frascara, Greta Constantine, Kelly Chase Couture, and Lucian Matis.
Our designer wedding gowns typically range from $2,500 to $10,000+, with most gowns falling between $4,000 and $7,000. We also host exclusive sample sales, where brides can find couture-level gowns starting at $999.
Our evening wear gowns range from $1,800 to $5,000+, with most falling between $2,000 and $4,000.
Bridal sizing is different from everyday clothing and varies by designer. At The Plumed Serpent Bridal, we proudly carry samples in sizes 6–22.
Once you say yes to your dress, we take your measurements and order the closest size according to the designer’s size chart. Alterations are to be expected, as they ensure your gown fits beautifully.
The majority of our gowns at The Plumed Serpent Bridal are made to order specifically for you. Once you say yes to your dress, we take your measurements and order the gown in the appropriate size according to the designer’s size chart.
However, we do also have sample gowns available for purchase off the rack at any time, which can be a wonderful option for brides with shorter timelines or those hoping to find a beautiful designer gown at a special price.
Yes! The Plumed Serpent Bridal is one of the few bridal stores in Connecticut that still offers in-house alterations. This allows us to be with you every step of the way, from the moment you say yes to the dress to the final fitting before your wedding day.
Yes! We offer professional wedding gown cleaning and preservation to help you protect and preserve one of the most meaningful garments you will ever wear. After your wedding, your gown is sent to a Connecticut-based specialist where it is carefully cleaned and preserved using museum-quality methods.
Each gown is hand-cleaned individually (never with other gowns) to protect delicate lace, beading, and embroidery. It also receives a special anti-sugar stain treatment that removes invisible stains from sugar, salt, or champagne spills that can darken over time.
Once cleaned, your gown is preserved using acid-free tissue and stored in a museum-quality archival preservation chest with a viewing window. This process protects the fabric and ensures your gown can be beautifully preserved for years to come. When the process is complete, your preserved gown is shipped directly back to you.
