I believe brides are shopping for more than just a dress; they’re looking for an intimate, individualized experience.
When I took over The Plumed Serpent a decade ago, my vision was to create a couture bridal boutique that catered to the fashionable bride and her individual needs.
After all, shopping for a wedding gown is something many women only do once (or maybe twice) in a lifetime. It helps to have the practiced eye of an expert on your side. Our goal is to create a highly personalized bridal experience with a singular focus: You.
The way I see it, you can find a wedding dress almost anywhere. But if you’re looking for more than just a dress, if you’re searching for an experience that celebrates you, your day, and your love for elegant, unique, beautifully crafted gowns, then you’re exactly the bride The Plumed Serpent serves.
What we have accomplished at the Plumed Serpent Bridal boutique has exceeded my expectations. Make an appointment with us now, so we can do the same for you.

What’s In a Name?
The most commonly asked question in the salon has nothing to do with wedding gowns, designers or evening wear. In fact, it has nothing to do with weddings at all. The most commonly asked question is all about our name. “What is a Plumed Serpent?” “Where does the name of the salon come from and what does it have to do with a bridal salon?” In a nutshell – nothing!
The Plumed Serpent was established in Westport in 1970. The original owner started the shop as a Mexican antique shop and imported furniture and accessories from Mexico for the local clientele. The Plumed Serpent or Quetzalcoatl is an Aztec & Mayan god related to the gods of wind – A cool name for a shop dealing with Mexican imports! But as times changed, so did what the store carried. Slowly more clothing was being brought in from Mexico: beautiful hand knit, chunky sweaters and other clothes that were hard to find in the States. The Plumed Serpent soon became a destination for women looking for something “different” to wear. And wedding gowns were no exception. The cotton, flowy peasant dresses were becoming the go-to alternative to the poufy, extravagant and ornate gowns that were so popular in the 1980’s.
The salon moved to its current location in 1996. Alison took ownership of The Plumed Serpent in 2000 and with her vision transformed it into a couture salon for the stylish bride.
